This is a very tall room with no windows and an airing cupboard, which was transformed to something more in keeping with the property. There are two galleries here, the first showing before and during construction,  the second showing once completed.

A Room Without a View.

This is a bathroom in a flat which is a conversion of a 19th century Gentleman’s Residence. The rooms have 12′ high ceilings because they were originally part of a large impressive property. Whilst that is fine for the majority of rooms, for the bathroom it made it totally out of proportion so the ceiling was dropped down to 9′.

The other issue was a lack of any window, so ventilation and plenty of lighting a necessity.

Off the room was an airing cupboard, which was only used for storing junk so it was decided to enlarge this and create a separate shower area rather than the usual “over the bath” remedy.

As can be seen from the before pics, the room was in dire need of upgrading. Once the bath was removed, the usual horrors emerged. The bath waste had been leaking for years and required a large part of the floor to be replaced, before being coved in cement board. Underfloor heating was fitted once the floor was finished.

To try and make this room a little different, I constructed various “recesses” and shelves. The main one over the bath formed a useful shelf for bottles, candles etc with a large mirror at the back to add depth to the room.

I constructed a long shelf unit to house the WC cistern and to create a recess at the end of the bath, again this provided a large shelf area above.

An inset TV screen was also fitted so as to be viewed when soaking in the bath.

The airing cupboard wall was removed and a recess created to fit the shower cubicle, with the shower itself being a Mira remote control pumped unit with the unit fitted above the shower ceiling and the remote control just inside the shower door. Again recesses created, the larger with an inset mirror to add “depth”.

Lots of led lighting to the ceiling and above the large mirror.
